The Highfield Level 2 Award in Introduction to First Aid for Mental Health (RQF) has been developed and is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The RQF includes those qualifications regulated by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation. The qualification is also regulated by Qualifications Wales.
A first aider for mental health is to give necessary mental health care or be the first to respond to an individual needing help with is often in a place of work.
A mental health first aider, unless fully qualified, cannot diagnose, assess, or even treat an individual suffering with mental health problems, however, they can identify and be able to assist people that requires help and support in regards to their mental health.
The Introduction to First Aid for Mental Health qualification can be taken by individuals that are preparing for employment or those who are already in full time employment.
In order to successfully conclude the Introduction to First Aid for Mental Health, individuals have to finish and complete these units – the units are mandatory
The total qualification time (TQT) for this qualification is 15 hours and of this 12 hours are recommended as guided learning hours (GLH).

The practical assessment of learners for the qualification is completed throughout the course delivery.

Learners are required to answer a series of questions ensuring their understanding of the theory content is sufficient to meet the required standard.

The unit introduces learners to the concepts of mental health, mental ill health and well-being, other related terminology and subjects. It aims to provide a learner with an understanding that all individuals have mental health and that an individual’s experience of mental health can fluctuate on a spectrum. Mental Health First Aid is for individuals to be able to assist people who suffers with mental health problems. This can include people with alcohol or drug addictions, or people who maybe suffering a worsening mental health condition or an existing problem with their mental health.
