The Highfield Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been developed and is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The RQF is a qualification framework regulated by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation.

The topics covered аrе rеgаrdеd bу Skills for Health as bеіng іmроrtаnt in maintaining good рrасtісе іn thе ѕаfе, рrоmрt аnd еffесtіvе аdmіnіѕtrаtіоn of саrdіорulmоnаrу resuscitation and аutоmаtеd еxtеrnаl dеfіbrіllаtіоn. Thе qualification mеаnѕ learners ѕhоuld bе аblе tо ѕаfеlу аnd еffесtіvеlу uѕе аn automated external dеfіbrіllаtіоn machine.
This qualification is made up of one mandatory unit, which learners must complete successfully in order to achieve the qualification. This is as follows:
Basic life support and safe use of an automated external defibrillator
The total qualification time for this qualification is 5 however it has been agreed with the Health and Safety Executive that the qualification has a minimum contact time of 4 hours. Courses are likely to run over a period of a half day or 1 day, depending on course design by the centre.
The Basic Life Support is assessed in three parts
Practical observation
The practical assessment of learners for the qualification is completed throughout the course delivery.
Written/Oral Questioning
Learners are required to answer a series of questions ensuring their understanding of the theory content is sufficient to meet the required standard.

All successful students will be issued with an First Aid certificate in BLS and AED, along with a wallet-sized plastic card. This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, at which point learners will need to re-sit the course. However the recommendation is that learners refresh their knowledge annually. Learners are required to be 14 years of age prior to certification.
This Paediatric First Aid qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, at which point learners will need to re-sit the course.
