First Aid Course Sunderland

First aid is an important practice, and represents the help given to somebody who has been harmed or suffered from an injury. Its aim is to preserve life, in case the situation is very dangerous, or to prevent the condition from getting worse. In some cases, receiving or offering first aid is crucial before the professional medical help is available in order to stabilize the patient, which is why it is important to have at least the minimal knowledge about what to do in case an accident takes place in your proximity. First aid training Sunderland is a common practice people attend in order to learn how to behave if they face a difficult situation. First Aid Course Sunderland

The program also includes CPR training Sunderland – cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a procedure recommended to those who cannot breathe anymore or experience abnormal breathing, through which the brain function is preserved until advanced methods are applied to bring the body to its normal function. This is the first and most common procedure volunteers are taught when attending such trainings.

Being able to perform CPR is an important ability that could save lives, so it is a procedure everyone should be able to perform, since you never know when somebody may need your skills. Attending first aid training Sunderland may help you learn some rescue techniques. The traditional method consists in pushing the chest of the unconscious person and causing them breathing. While some associations still support this practice, recent studies have shown that rescue breathing may cause complications if the patient suffers from cardiac arrest. Information about CPR can be found on the internet or in specialized clinics and it consist of instruction on how to perform it correctly in order to provide rescue breath. If you witness a situation in which someone may need medical help, there are a few simple steps to be followed:

  • Find out whether the person is still conscious or not, by asking them a series of simple questions, such as “Are you ok?”. If the person answers, try to find out how they feel, but if they are not able to respond, seek immediately specialized help;
  • Try to make them lay flat on their back, and if necessary, move the whole body simultaneously, making sure you do not cause harm to their limbs
  • Try to facilitate the breathing process: open their airways, lift their chin and push the forehead and eliminate any piece of clothing or object which may prevent the person to breath normally. Be careful if the person has suffered a neck injury cause by a car accident for example, because you are not allowed to move their head in this situation or you could cause more harm;
  • Move fast and check the vital signs for no more than 10 seconds (such as pulse)
  • If none of the above cause the person to breathe and there is no professional help, it is highly recommended to start performing chest compressions, or rescue breathing.
