Infection Prevention and Control in Health and Care Settings

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Highfield Level 2 Award in the Infection Prevention and Control in Health and Care Settings (RQF) has been developed and is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The RQF is a qualification framework regulated by Ofqual. The qualification is also regulated by Qualifications Wales.

CURRICULUM

Infection Prevention and Control is a series of steps in order to support any role in the care setting. It is aimed all staff who are working in the health and care settings for example, care homes, health centres, private care settings, surgeries and childcare settings and gives them underpinning knowledge of how to prevent and control the spread of infection.

This qualification is made up of one mandatory unit and learners must successfully complete the assessment to achieve the qualification.

The mandatory units is;

Prevention and control of infection in health and care settings.

The qualification has a total qualification time of 7 hours with a minimum guided learning hours of 7.

The Prevention and Control of Infection in Health and Care Settings is assessed in two parts

Practical observation

The practical assessment of learners for the qualification is completed throughout the course delivery.

Written/Oral questioning

Learners are required to answer a series of questions ensuring their understanding of the theory content is sufficient to meet the required standard.

Multiple-choice examination

25-question multiple-choice test which will be externally marked by Highfield. Successful learners must achieve a minimum pass mark of 17 correct answers (68%)

  • Causes of infection
  • How is infection spread? (bodily fluids etc)
  • Preventing spread of infection
  • Staff responsibilities
  • Personal hygiene
  • Additions Factors
  • Preventing injuries from sharp
  • Treating injuries from sharps
  • Cleaning, sterilisation & disinfection
  • Legislation and responsibilities

All successful learners will be issued with a Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention and Control In Health And Care Settings RQF Certificate which is valid for 3 years from date of issue. Learners are required to be 16 years of age prior to certification.

This Level 2 Infection Prevention and Control In Health And Care Settings RQF qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, at which point learners will need to re-sit the course. However, the recommendation is that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
